Children of Joseph - The Unknown Story
There is much about the Smith family that still remains unknown and overshadowed in misinformation. When the Prophet Joseph Smith was martyred in 1844, his wife Emma Hale Smith and five of their eleven children were left behind. Earnest attempts to aid and help the little Smith family became entangled in assumptions and misunderstandings on all sides, which have remained for generations. Under the direction of Brigham Young the Saints traveled west and settled in Utah, while Emma and her family remained in Nauvoo Illinois. After producing “Emma Smith, My Story,” many questions still remain, such as: Why did Emma stay? What caused the rift between Brigham and Emma? What happened to Joseph and Emma’s descendants? “Children of Joseph” brings scholars and modern-day descendants together to share stories and insights about life after Joseph’s death, their discovery of the Gospel in recent years, and the miraculous efforts to mend the divide between the Smith and Young families. Begin to see the powers of Heaven work amongst the children of Joseph and Emma presently, which are exciting and of great interest. Throughout the years many have been inspired by the lives and legacy of Joseph Smith, Jr. and Emma Hale Smith. The Joseph Smith Jr. and Emma Hale Smith Historical Society (JSEHS) promotes the understanding of the life and times, teachings, and heritage of Joseph and Emma. History has taught us that great men and women have paved the way for us to live better lives. As we seek to foster a greater understanding about the significance and importance of the contributions made by both Joseph Smith Jr. and Emma Hale Smith, we will also be able to contribute towards the future wellbeing of individuals. We will gain a deeper understanding of truth, honor, religion, and have the opportunity to learn from many who share a vision of a better world. Key Activities:
